Progressive private home connected to its setting.
This private residence sits in an established landscape and provides 14,000sqft of accommodation inclusive of a spa complex. Progressive open plan living arrangements are combined with an interplay of double and single volume spaces that create interest and a sense of space that is penetrated with light and views from the setting of the plot.
Slender horizontal lines contrast with a strong vertical emphasis leading to the central double height atrium which separates the master suite from 4 other bedrooms. The use of extensive, but highly considered areas of glass, help to connect the occupant to the fantastic setting of the site and provide views over meadows and private woodland beyond.
Rough flint walls form solid elements of the façade and contrast with flatter more contemporary surfaces bringing texture and interest. Flint is local to the area and helps to connect the design to the ground via walls which extend out into the landscape creating and zoning different landscaped areas.
Key to the design brief was the use of water, the plan responds to this by incorporating long coy ponds that intersect the arrangement from front to rear. The ponds reflect the geometry and materiality of the property and contribute to the calming and emotive feel to the design language.
